| I would like to update everyone on our current plans for this year: |
|
Whether attending the Las Vegas Reunion or not, we need your participation and input in the activities and projects of our Foundation. Please take note of the following: |
1. Las Vegas USTMAAA Convention |
| Our class is a featured participant at the USTMAAA celebration. Through Trining Tinio-Balbuena’s survey, and Dan Deaño’s persistence in keeping an updated list, we noted that 88 classmates plan to attend. However, USTMAAA’s list only 44 registrants. A few of our classmates will represent class’67 in providing the CME lectures on July 3rd. Please make sure you register to attend the July 4th Dinner Dance (Red, White and Blue Extravaganza) at Wynn Casino. Nila and Nilo Sayat, Inday Mapa and Vladi Santos are doing their best to come up with an entertaining presentation for our class. There is another Dinner Dance on July 3rd. This one is for the silver and golden jubilarians- not us. |
2. Las Vegas “Salo-salo” Dinner Function |
The Foundation initially intended to underwrite the “salo-salo” on July 2nd to serve as an informal get together and to thank those who have participated in the legacy campaign. However, to date, less than half of those attending our Las Vegas reunion have participated in the legacy. We therefore feel that we will erode the legacy money if we use Foundation money for this event and for this reason, the Foundation decided to ask all attendees to pay individually. Soty estimated that $ 50.00 per head is a reasonable charge. Please write a check in Soty Fabella’s name and mail it to him at 204 Campbell Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89107 to ensure your reservation. |
3. Treasure Island Hotel Reservation |
The Foundation provided the deposit to reserve the rooms at Treasure Island Hotel. 15 of the 30 rooms remain unreserved. To avoid losing that money, we are offering the rooms to other class organizers. |
4. General Meeting and Elections |
We will have our Foundation’s general meeting at the Treasure Island Hotel on July 4th at 7:00 AM. Continental breakfast will be served and to be paid for by the Foundation. We are also holding our elections at that time. The Nomination committee, under the chairmanship of Danny Lucila has renominated the current Foundation officers for another term. Nominations from the floor will also be entertained.
Dean Graciela Garayblas-Gonzaga will attend and provide us with the state of our legacy-funded project - the Clinical Skills Facility (CSF), a first in the the Philippines. Also in our agenda for class discussion and approval are:
- Formula for disbursement of Foundation funds.
- USTMAAA liaison
- Medical Mission Project
- Philippine Trip
|
5. Canyon Tour |
The Canyon trip is on June 29 to July 1st. Individual reservations are in place however we have enough only for one bus. The number of individuals in the waiting list was not enough for another bus. |
6. Class ’67 Golf Tournament |
Prescy Almonte and Edmundo Estrada are hosting a Class’67 golf tournament on July 3rd at the Revere Golf Course in the outskirt of Las Vegas. To date, 28 individuals have confirmed their participation in said golf outing. Many of our classmates are also participating in the USTMAAA golf tournament on July 2nd. |
| |
As of this date, June 2nd, we have $ 233,350 collected or pledged from 87 classmates. This represents 37.4% of 235 classmates in our US mailing list. Listed are the range of donations (4 are husband and wife donations). |

We are hopeful that there are “late givers” because we are $ 66,650 short of our goal. There are still 148 in our US mailing list who we hope to hear from, 43 of them we hope to convince when we meet with them in Las Vegas. More important than the amount of donation is a majority participation of our class. We need 30 more individuals to donate or pledge to make it a 50% participation.
We have already stated our commitment to fund the CSF. Architectural plans have been approved and constructions will start as soon as we deliver the first installment. We have also committed our Foundation to ensuring the CSF’s operations, including training of its staff. |
| Proposed Formula for Disbursement of Funds |
|
This proposal is for discussion prior to our general meeting to hopefully come up with a consensus. |
1. Legacy Fund |
We propose that the collected legacy fund be divided into:
a) 10% - Certain expenses for Las Vegas and Philippine Reunions
b) 10% - To be set aside as our golden jubilee legacy, 10 years from now. One option is to deposit this amount in the USTMAAA Funds to secure Class 67’s permanent membership in the USTMAAA Foundation with the stipulation that this amount plus accumulated interest will be directed as Class ‘67’s golden anniversary legacy in 2017.
Advantages of this proposal:
- We resolve the USTMAAA liaison issue.
- We will no longer have another fund-raising event.
- We are assured that we will have a golden jubilee legacy.
Disadvantage: This money will remain inaccessible for 10 years
c) 10% - Finance the start of he Medical Mission Project.
d) 70% - CSF construction and operations. Any excess fund will be used for CME maintenance of facility and operations. |
2. The Foundation money |
Part of the Foundation money (about 75 K) present in the bank prior to the legacy collections will be designated for the following:
- Maximum of 15% will be used each year for administrative issues - Newsletter, communications, legal and accountant’s fees etc. In years that these expenses exceed this amount, a collection from the membership will be made to bridge the gap.
- Maximum of 10 % of this amount will be used for memorials each year.
|
3. Special Fund |
This will be a separate fund where individual donors may designate their donation to any of the following:
- Charity of choice
- Financial help to classmates in need
- Medical Mission Project.
- Others

| Please refer to our itinerary in our website, www.ustmed67.org |
1. Cebu-Bohol Trip |
The Foundation will provide the refundable deposit to reserve the airline fares and the hotels for the Cebu/Bohol trip because we need to make our reservations by mid-June. To avoid the problem that we are encountering in our Las Vegas reunion, we will ask all attendees to write a check for this purpose when they indicate their intention to attend the Cebu-Bohol trip. The check for $300.00 per person will cover this reservation and will be applicable to the $625.00 (PP30,000) per person cost of this trip. |
2. US - Philippine Airfare |
This will remain the individual’s responsibility. Dan Deaño has provided all the information and the names of the travel agencies in our website. Please plan your flights so that we can show our presence during the Dr. Luis Ma. Guerrero Lecture to be given by our very own Ging Salanga at 8:30 AM on December 7th at the UST CME Auditorium. |
4. Hotel Reservations for the Manila Reunion |
We will provide a list of hotel rates but this will remain the individual’s responsibility. We need to know the places where each of you will stay so that we can establish a process of communication and transportation during our Manila reunion. |
5. Special events in Manila |
- Dr. Luis Ma. Guerrero Lecture to be given by Ging Salanga on December 7th.
- The CSF dedication
- Dinner with the USTFMS’s leadership
- Grand dinner dance to be attended by all alumni on December 16th.
|
Salamat po sa inyong lahat.
Ang aba po ninyong lingkod,
Cora Gemil |
